Please note that all students must complete an application for admissions at Gaston College Admissions Application prior to scheduling a college placement test.
Gaston College placement policy, called RISE, uses your unweighted high school GPA to determine placement, instead of testing. Any student who graduated from a U.S. high school within the last 10 years is exempt from taking the RISE Placement Test and will be placed into college courses based on high school GPA.
Any student who graduated from high school more than 10 years ago may still be exempt from taking the RISE Placement Test if the applicants has following test scores (test scores must be less than ten years old): SAT: 480 or higher on the English, and 530 or higher on the math section. ACT: 16 or higher on the English section, 20 or higher on the reading, and 20 or higher on the math section. A transfer student who has earned a 'C' or higher in college level algebra and college level English from a regionally accredited institution.
*If you meet any of these criteria, please submit official documentation of these test scores or grades to the Office of Admissions.
