Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide Inspections

The Palm Springs City Council adopted a “Comprehensive Fee Schedule” that accurately reflects costs for the delivery of City Services.

To ensure a successful inspection, please take note the following:

  1. The cost of an inspection is $111.00 and must be paid for with credit / debit card at the time of scheduling.  The appointment system will not hold your time without payment in advance.

  2. Inspections are booked on a first-come, first-served basis; and you must have an escrow number to book an inspection appointment.

  3. Absolutely NO CANCELLATIONS, CHANGES AND/OR REFUNDS once inspections are paid for and scheduled.

  4. All properties sold in the City of Palm Springs are required to have a PASSED inspection in order to close escrow.  Book your appointment(s) as early as possble to ensure a PASSED inspection.  Sellers that neglect to have a passing inspection completed prior to the close of escrow may be subject to citation.

  5. Windy Point Area (usually a five digit numerical address) are NOT located in the City's boundaries and these properties are considered Riverside County.  You must contact CAL FIRE for their requirements in terms of smoke detector inspections.

  6. DO NOT SCHEDULE more than one appointment at a time.  Allow some time between bookings to ensure appointments are scheduled correctly.

  7. Inspections for 92264 (South areas) are performed in the mornings (AM).

  8. Inspections for 92262 (North areas) are performed in the afternoons (PM).

  9. Please enter all of the required information on the booking form accurately so that the inspector will know exactly where to be at the appointment time.  Don't forget to include the unit number - if any!

  10. IMMEDIATE NEED inspections are available for an additional fee of $75.00 and only if an inspector is available.  See below for more details on how to book an IMMEDIATE NEED inspection.

  11. FAILED INSPECTIONS:

    • If your inspection FAILS, you must schedule a new inspection; therefore, paying another $111.00 for an inspection appointment.

    • If someone is not there to meet the inspector at the time of the appointment, the inspection will FAIL.  The inspector will not enter the property unless someone at least 18 years of age is there to let him/her into the dwelling.

    • If a property is not ready for the inspection when the inspector arrives, the inspection will FAIL.

    • Intentional and/or accidental inspections scheduled in the wrong area will not be inspected and will FAIL the inspection.

    • Do not be late for your appointment; the inspector, as a courtesy, will wait approximately 5-10 minutes after the appointment time (if possible); otherwise, the inspection will FAIL.

    • If you do not follow the requirements exactly, the inspection will FAIL.  Therefore, please print a copy of the provided list of requirements and contact us if you have any additional questions.

  12. The signed certification report you receive at the inspection will be emailed directly to the email addresses provided when the appointment was booked.  If it isn't received, just contact our office.

  13. Smoke detector inspection certifications are good for up to 6 MONTHS from the date of inspection.

  14. Security bars installed on windows must be self-releasing or be removed.  If there are security bars or roll-down shutters on bedroom windows and/or exterior doors, contact the Fire Department for compliance requirements.

  15. Casitas must have a moke detector permanently installed.

  16. Prior to your inspection date, verify the correct locations and functionality of smoke detectors and CO alarms.  Refer to the appointment scheduling website FAQ’s for additional requirements.

  17. Bring extra smoke detectors, CO alarms, batteries and installation tools to the inspection. 

  18. Ensure that address numbers are on the property and visible from the street.  Address numbers on the curb only do NOT comply.

  19. If the property has an automatic fire sprinkler system, assure that all escutcheons and cover plates are in place and that sprinkler heads and/or cover plates have not been painted.

  20. Within an hour of scheduling, you will receive an email confirmation of your appointment.  If you do not receive your confirmation email, immediately call:

1. BOOK THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT FOR THE ZIP CODE YOU NEED AN INSPECTION;


2. CALL 760.323.8186 AND STATE THAT YOU ARE CALLING TO CHANGE YOUR EXISTING APPOINTMENT TO THE NEXT AVAILABLE "IMMEDIATE NEED" APPOINTMENT;


3. YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR THE DATE & TIME OF YOUR EXISTING APPOINTMENT SO THAT THAT APPOINTMENT CAN BE MOVED TO AN "IMMEDIATE NEED" AVAILABLE DATE & TIME;


4. ONCE THE APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED, THE ADDITIONAL FEE OF $75 WILL BE TAKEN OVER THE PHONE - VISA OR MASTERCARD ONLY.

 

NOTE:  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD READY TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESSING TIME - WE DO NOT KEEP CREDIT CARD INFORMATION ON FILE.
