Buying a home is typically the biggest financial transaction an individual or family will ever make. Additionally, that home typically becomes an individual’s an individual’s or family’s largest financial asset. Homeownership is one of our core programs that feeds into our efforts to help individuals obtain and sustain housing.
•Buy a Home: Community Link is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency which will provide you with the homeownership education and counseling needed to purchase your dream home! Our program includes 8-hours of education (classroom, or a mixture of classroom and online – if you choose!), one-on-one counseling with a HUD approved housing counselor – we will go through your credit, help you find the mortgage loan that is right for you, budgeting working, etc!
Your first step is to attend our free introductory session, held every Monday (except holidays), 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. You’ll learn more about the program, opportunities for down payment assistance, and most important – whether this program is right for you.
If you decide to enroll in our program, your cost is $60. But you are under no obligation to enroll.
Prevent Foreclosure: counseling and connections to help an individual experiencing an economic hardship save their home from foreclosure. Our HUD-approved housing counselors will go through your situation and find the options to best help you – through Loss Mitigation programs, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Hardest Hit Funds, local resources, budgeting assistance, etc!
Your first step is to attend our free Foreclosure Prevention Workshop. You’ll learn more about the program, opportunities for t assistance, and most important – what we can do to assist you so that you can stay in your home!
We have two times/days available – Fridays from 10 AM – 12 PM or Tuesdays from 6 PM – 8 PM. Sign up for the class that fits your schedule here.
VITA Free Income Tax Preparation
Available January through April: Free tax preparation services are provided for taxpayers(individuals or families) with incomes under $54,000 for 2016. Don't pay expensive tax or "rapid refund" fees. Trained and certified volunteers will prepare and e-file your taxes for FREE, and even help you direct deposit for a faster refund.
In order for our volunteers to serve you, you must bring the following: SS card (or ITIN) for each family member, picture ID for taxpayer (spouse, if applicable), W-2 or 1099 for all jobs worked, child care provider name, address and tax ID number, any other tax related documents you have received, 1098-T education statement from college or university, banking account information to direct deposit your refund, proof of health insurance 1095-A,B or C and a copy of last year's tax return. If married, both spouses must be present to sign the return.
Appointments are available during the week. All sites are open on weekends for walk-in only.
