Glassblowing 101: Make your own Drinking Glass Date(s)
This two-day introduction to glassblowing will guide the first time student and students looking to brush-up on their skills, through the fundamentals of gathering glass from the furnace, vocabulary, tools, and safety. You will start with Diablo's core exercises: the paperweight. Then the class will be introduced to the blown bubble through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises. Students will then apply the color and blowing techniques learned to create their very own colorful drinking glass. No experience necessary

Stained Glass 101 Date(s)
During this two-day weekend workshop, students will learn the basic skills of stained glass. Instructors will start by teaching students to cut and grind glass. Then, using the American Tiffany Copper Foil technique, students will prepare their objects to be assembled. The final step is to solder the pieces together to create sun-catchers, window panels or ornaments. No prior experience necessary.

Times: Monday to Thursday 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm Course Fees: One Week: $1,000 Two Week: $1,800 Three week: Three Week: $2,500 Class size limit: 9 This intensive course will take students through a series of fundamental skills, which are crucial to working in the hot shop. While beginner students will be learning how to gather, form and control glass, and blow bubbles to make glasses and small vessels, intermediate student will be implementing Swedish and Venetian glass blowing techniques to create larger pieces with a variety of color applications, body wraps and raking. This hands-on flameworking course covers the basics of creating glass objects in the flame of a stationary propane/oxygen torch and progresses into methods of decoration. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. The class will alternate between demonstrations and plenty of work time. Students will practice Techniques for applying color and manipulating the form. No experience necessary. Return students are welcome and all materials are included.

In this three hour workshop students will create a one-of-a-kind fused glass piece that will be assembled into a clock. Using clear glass, colored scraps, frits, and stringers students will explore the medium of fused glass. Each student will complete a few small pieces to get their creative juices flowing followed by one larger piece to be made into a clock. After the piece has been fired, a few days after the class, Diablo staff will drill a hole in the center of the piece and install the clock parts. Students will return one week later to pick up their fully assembled fused glass clock! no experience necessary (shipping options available)

Teen Vacation Week: Glassblowing & Flameworking Mon-Thur Date(s)
Teens who are interested in working in a team atmosphere with a lot of physical activity will enjoy working in the glass blowing shop. Diablo's experienced instructors will guide teens through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises to build their understanding of the medium. There is a three students to one instructor ratio in the hot shop to ensure safety and plenty of individual instruction. First, students will learn basic glass manipulation by creating a paperweight. They will move on to learn how to introduce air into the piece to create a bubble. From there, students can make glasses and small vases. In the afternoon students will move into the Flame shop where teens will learn how to make beautiful glass beads using a stationary bench torch. They will be working on a mandrel, using soft glass to build colorful glass pieces. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Techniques such as dot application, marvering, stringers, annealing and bead cleaning, will all be covered.

After the piece has been fired, a few days after the class, Diablo staff will drill a hole in the center of the piece and install the clock parts. Teen Vacation Week: Glassblowing & Flameworking Mon-Thur Date(s)
Teens who are interested in working in a team atmosphere with a lot of physical activity will enjoy working in the glass blowing shop. Diablo's experienced instructors will guide teens through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises to build their understanding of the medium. There is a three students to one instructor ratio in the hot shop to ensure safety and plenty of individual instruction. First, students will learn basic glass manipulation by creating a paperweight. They will move on to learn how to introduce air into the piece to create a bubble. From there, students can make glasses and small vases. In the afternoon students will move into the Flame shop where teens will learn how to make beautiful glass beads using a stationary bench torch. They will be working on a mandrel, using soft glass to build colorful glass pieces. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Techniques such as dot application, marvering, stringers, annealing and bead cleaning, will all be covered.

The Swedish Bowl ($175) Date(s)
The Swedish Bowl is similar to the glass paperweight but students will be working with a blowpipe to add a hollow to their piece and then allowing the bubble to collapse creating a bowl shape in the center. This introductory class guides the first time glass artist through the most crucial skills. Students will learn how to gather glass from the furnace, how to shape and control, and how to apply color. In a fun and informative manner our instructors will introduce you to tools, safety and basic glass theory. Every student will leave with a gorgeous funky glass bowl and a strong foundation for future exploration. No experience necessary. All materials included.

Flame Working Sampler ($75) Date(s)
This course will introduce flame working at a stationary bench torch. This beginner class is the best way to enjoy the excitement of melting the glass in the torch while making your very own piece. You will experience putting the melted glass on the mandrel, controlling, shaping, and sculpting it to produce colorful beads. The course is intended to briefly introduce flame work to the student for further consideration.
