Kiln Forming 1 Fusing and Slumping 4-Wk Monday ($260) Date(s)
This four-week class in an excellent overview to the world of kiln formed glass. Kiln forming is a process by which glass is assembled, put into a kiln, and heated in a controlled manner to achieve a wide range of effects. There will be discussions about kiln forming theory, color theory, design and pattern. You will learn how to cut straight lines, curves, and circles. The exercises will cover kiln carving, fusing, slumping and some painterly effects. You will have many study pieces and two finished pieces, which will bring the techniques you learned together. No experience necessary.

Glassblowing Intensive - Hot Shop
This intensive course will take students through a series of fundamental skills, which are crucial to working in the hot shop. While beginner students will be learning how to gather, form and control glass, and blow bubbles to make glasses and small vessels, intermediate student will be implementing Swedish and Venetian glass blowing techniques to create larger pieces with a variety of color applications, body wraps and raking. More advanced students will be learning variety of new techniques while improving their skill and solidifying the acquired knowledge.

Flameworking 2: Boro Glass (4Week) $270
This four week workshop will advance your knowledge of flameworking techniques and tools. Learn how to blow hollow beads, color and sculptural techniques. Prerequisite: Flameworking I

Glassblowing Intensive - Flame Shop
Our experienced instructors will guide students to learn the basics of manipulating hot glass with a stationary gas and oxygen torch. Students will explore solid and hollow shapes, and color and decoration techniques, while making objects like marbles, pendants, sculptures, ornaments, cups, small vases and more, using borosilicate glass (pyrex). Demonstrations and class discussions will alternate with plenty of hands-on work time available in an effort to make sure students get the most out of this course.

MassArt:Introduction to Flameworking (12W 3 credits)
Introductory Flameworking draws upon historical records and contemporary lampworked glass to develop a working knowledge of blowing glass with a torch. This course will focus on research, elaboration of ideas, and the realization of successful sculptural work using glass. Students will learn the differences of material that can be used in the flameworking studio and how to sculpt both moretti and borosilicate glass. Marbles, beads, coloring techniques, blown parts, networking, and multipart sculptures will be covered in this course.

MassArt:Introduction to Flameworking- 12 Wk Mon Eve($936)
This class is an introduction to basic flameworking techniques used to make both vessels and sculptural forms in corporated into vessel stoppers. The course uses a structured approach to torch use, flame, heat and gravity in projects which become increasingly advanced as the course progresses. Undergratuate course. GLXXX-C1 1.5 cr

Teen Vacation Studios -Flameworking & Fused Glass $545
In this studio, teens will learn how to make beautiful glass beads at a stationary bench torch. They will be working on a mandrel, using soft glass, Moretti, to build these colorful glass pieces. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Demonstrations will alternate with working time. Dot application, marvering, stringers, annealing and bead cleaning, shall be covered. Flame working takes glass into a small and delicate world. Teens interested focusing on color and fine details will enjoy the flame studio. In the afternoon students will move into the kiln forming studio. Here they will assemble pieces of glass that they will heat in the kiln to create a fused piece of glass. Their first assignment will be to make some pendants. They will learn basic glass cutting techniques, along with kiln forming and color theory. The pieces they will create are coasters and plates.

Teen Vacation Week -Glassblowing & Fused Glass $650
Diablo's experienced instructors will guide teens through a series of demonstrations and hands on exercises to begin to build their understanding of the medium. There is a three students to one instructor ratio in the hot shop to ensure safety and plenty of individual instruction. First, students will learn to gather, by creating a paperweight. Then they will learn how to introduce air into the piece to create a bubble. From there, students can make glasses and small vases. Teens who are interested in working in a team atmosphere with a lot of physical activity will enjoy working in the glass blowing shop. In the afternoon students will move into the kiln forming studio. Here they will assemble pieces of glass that they will heat in the kiln to create a fused piece of glass. Their first assignment will be to make some pendants. They will learn basic glass cutting techniques, along with kiln forming and color theory. The pieces they will create are coasters and a plate.
